Frequently Asked Questions about Prominent Ear Surgery

Frequently Asked Questions about Prominent Ear Surgery

Many people who have the prominent (protruding) ear problem are not aesthetically pleased with this situation and are seeking to solve this issue. During their research, they face many questions about the prominent ear surgery, the answers for which we will be providing in this article. Frequently asked questions about prominent ear surgery;

1. What does prominent ear mean?

The prominent (protruding) ear is an aesthetically disliked by many people situation, which is caused by the various reasons such as the angle between the ear and the head being larger than normal, the ear fold becomes flat or the big size of the top ear bowl (conchal bowl)

2. Is prominent ear genetic?

In most people with prominent ear problems, this condition is genetic. It occurs as a result of the genes coming from the mother and father which prevent or disrupt the development of the ear cartilage in the child. However, as a result of some situations such as traffic accident and trauma, the person may experience prominent ear problems.

3. Can taping help with the prominent ears correction?

The tapes cannot permanently change the structure of the prominent ear cartilage. However, in the case of a newborn and 3-month-old baby, bandages and molds used under the supervision of a doctor and in line with his recommendations can correct the prominent ear structure in infants.

4. At what age can the prominent ear surgery be performed?

Prominent ear surgery can be performed in individuals who have reached the age of 6. If your child has a prominent ear structure, having prominent ear surgery at an early age may be beneficial for your child’s psychology. Since, children can make such situations as a mockery. The psychology of children who are faced with this situation may be adversely affected.

5. How to get ready for the prominent ear surgery?

Before the prominent ear surgery, a number of examinations are performed for the patient under the control of the doctor. These include tests such as blood analysis, anesthesia control, physical examination, measurement and imaging. However, alcohol consumption should be stopped 2 weeks before prominent ear surgery, additionally smoking should be quitted at least 6 months before the surgery and never smoked after the surgery. Since smoking cigarettes negatively affects the healing process, and alcohol increases the risk of surgical bleeding.

6. How is prominent ear surgery performed?

Prominent ear surgeries can be performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia. Assoc.Prof.Dr.Suleyman TAS utilizes the technique developed by himself called as “A New Way For Antihelixplasty In Prominent Ear Surgery: Modified Postauricular Fascial Flap” which was awarded on the competition organized by the Turkish Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Association. Local anesthesia is used with this method, and general anesthesia for the children below 12 years old. After making a small incision behind the ear, the ear is leaned back with a modifed tissue called as a Flap. This way, potential problems such as stitch loosening or dehiscence that may occur later are prevented.

7. What are the advantages of the Flap Technique ?

There are many advantages of the Flap technique developed by Assoc.Prof.Dr.Suleyman TAS with the purpose of prominent ear correction. Since the absorbable sutures are used, the stitches behind the patient’s ear cannot be detached or loosened even 1-2 years after the surgery. Since the ear is leaned back as much as it is necessary, the gap behind the ear doesn’t disappear completely. Swelling and bruises do not occur after surgery due to the fact that no intervention is required in the frontal part of the ear, and due to the splinting which is performed in the inner part of the ear. Due to the application of this technique with local anesthesia and being performed behind the ear, there is no scar in the ear after the operation. Since this technique does not cause any trauma in the ear, those who are operated can continue their daily lives the next day. Moreover, those who were subjected to a prominent ear operation with this technique were called for control in the 1st month, 6th month, 12th month and 2 years. As a result of the controls, no negative change occurred in the ear of any patient.

8. How many hours does a prominent ear surgery last?

The duration of the prominent ear surgery lasts between 1-1.5 hours in average depending on the ear structure and the ear image it is expected to reach. Shortly after the operation, the patient can resume his/her daily activities.

9. How long does the pain last after prominent ear surgery?

Thanks to the anesthesia applied during the operation, pain is not felt for 10-12 hours after the ear surgery. However, the patient should use painkillers on the first day of the operation. Otherwise, may feel pain. However, in order to prevent possible pain, the patient should follow the doctor’s recommendations. These recommendations include suggestions such as not lying on the ear.

10. How is the process after prominent ear surgery?

The patient is discharged on the day of the surgery. During the period recommended by the doctor, water should not contact the operated ear / ears and the painkiller recommended by the doctor should be used. Bandages should be worn first 3 days without taking them off, and 2 weeks only at nights. Afterwards, it is not necessary to wear any band like tennis player band. However, situations such as lying on the operated ear that may cause trauma in the ear should be avoided. If the doctor’s recommendations are followed, the patient can return to his normal life the day after the operation.

11. Are there problems after prominent ear surgery?

In all techniques that can be used for prominent ear surgery, certain problems may occur depending on the structure of the methods. These postoperative problems are basically divided into two as early period and late period. Problems that may arise in the early period include bleeding, blood collection, skin death, wound opening, infection. Problems that may arise in the late period include pain and tenderness when the ear is touched, distortion in the shape of the ear, scars left after the surgery, and stitches coming out after the prominent ear surgery.

The above potential problems, which may vary depending on the surgical technique used, are not seen in all patients. However, thanks to the awarded Flap Technique developed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suleyman TAS, a solution to the problems that can be seen in other methods was found. With this technique, which is increasingly used all over the world, the problems we have mentioned above do not occur in any period of the operations we have performed until today.

12. When the stitches are removed in prominent ear surgery?

The stitches are removed within the first 7-10 days after the operation, whereas the patient can resume his daily activities on the next day of the surgery.

13. How much is the price of prominent ear surgery in Turkey?

Prominent Ear Surgery Process in Turkey

Prominent ear deformity is an aspect which affects the psychology of the children starting from the childhood. At school or in the park the kids are being teased by other kids due to their different appearance which causes self-confidence problems. Specialists advise undergoing the prominent ear surgery before the school age. The surgical process for the kids passes easier and the cartilages are reshaped in a better way. In this article we are going to talk about Prominent Ear Surgery Process in Turkey.

Before the Prominent Ear Surgery

Before undergoing a surgery those who want to have a surgery and their parents should make a detailed research. The choice of a doctor has an impact on a whole process. Looking at before and after pictures of the previous patients may give you an idea. After deciding on the doctor you need to go for a physical examination to get a professional opinion and make a determined decision. During your detailed examination you need to express clearly your complaints and expectations from this surgery. When you feel confident about your doctor and have a proper communication with him/her you may plan your surgery. During your planning process the details of the surgery, type of the anesthesia, day and the exact hour is determined. There are tests need to be done prior to the surgery. If you have any diseases or using any medication you must inform your doctor about it during the planning process.

Any kind of blood thinning medications shouldn’t be used at least 10 days before the surgery. Alcohol consumption should be stopped 10 days before as well. You need to avoid the foods and herbs that have a blood thinning effect.

Surgery Day

You need to be on time in the hospital for your prominent ear surgery as has been planned previously. If it will be under local anesthesia you may have a light breakfast. If it will be under general anesthesia you shouldn’t be eating anything 8 hours before your surgery. At the planned time of your surgery you will be transferred to the operating room with the help of the nurses. When you will see your doctor in the operating room you will feel relieved and your anxiety will decrease. The surgery lasts about 1 hour. At the end of the operation to protect the shape given during the surgery, and reduce the swelling you will be wearing a bandage. When you go to your room you may not feel any pain due to the given medications. For the surgeries performed under local anesthesia, you may start eating once you reach your room, and may discharge after 3-4 hours of observation. For the surgeries performed under general anesthesia you shouldn’t be eating and drinking anything at least 4 hours after the surgery, and might need to stay overnight in the hospital upon the request of your doctor.

Breast Reconstruction After Breast Cancer

Breast Reconstruction After Breast Cancer

Breast Reconstruction Surgery

With the operation we call mastectomy, the breast that will damage the woman’s body due to the disease is removed. Breast reconstruction operation is performed for women who have undergone mastectomy or removal of the breasts. Performing breast removal and breast reconstruction surgery together has an important meaning in terms of the patient’s psychological health. Reconstruction after mastectomy can be performed simultaneously depending on the stage of the disease. If the disease is in its final stages, first of all, the person is expected to overcome this disease and then breast-reconstruction surgery is performed. Breast reconstruction surgery is carried out in conjunction with breast cancer treatment. It has become mandatory to inform patients about how the breast is reconstructed during the treatment process with a decision taken by the American Food and Drug Administration (FDA) after 2010.

How to Replace the Breast Removed by Mastectomy?

Many different methods are used to reconstruct the breast that has been removed for different reasons. The technique to be used for the restructuring of the breast is determined taking into account the patient’s health. In order to re-create the breast, two different methods are offered to you primarily. These are;

Tissue from the Body of the Person (Autologous)

Skin and tissues taken from the abdominal region are generally used to reconstruct the breast. In this method, which is suitable for patients with sagging abdomen, fat and skin tissues taken from the abdomen are shaped after microsurgery and transplantation to the breast area is performed. As a result of the tissues taken from the abdomen, our patient gets rid of excesses in the abdominal region and breast is reconstructed this way. During this procedure, our patient undergoes abdominoplasty surgery and breast reconstruction surgery together.

Breast Implant

In order to perform a breast implant surgery, it is necessary to leave enough breast tissue during the mastectomy operation. The breast implant operation is performed after determining the appropriate breast implants dimensions suitable for our patient.

Breast Reconstruction After Breast Cancer

Other techniques that can be applied to reconstruct the breast are as follows;

  • Skin and muscle tissue taken from the back region (Latissimus Dorsi Muscle Flap)
  • Using tissue expander and breast prostheses
  • Reconstruction of the breast by the fat injection
  • From the muscle and skin tissue taken from the hip area
  • Without need for microsurgery, the fat and the skin removed from the abdomen are used to reconstruct the breasts with the TRAM Flap technique.

In order not to risk the psychological health of our patients who undergone a breast removal operation due to illness or various reasons, the breast must be reconstructed. You can learn more about the breast reconstruction surgery after breast cancer via our contact number +90 543 456 36 93.

Things to Consider Before Breast Surgery

Things to Consider Before Breast Surgery

The biggest factor in the need of women for breast surgery is the problems in their social and private lives. Women who aren’t satisfied with their breast structure start not enjoying the life because of the feeling of distrust and unhappiness. Even if they want to ignore what others think, they decide to have breast surgery as soon as they realize that they are disturbed by the current situation. Due to different reasons such as breast structure, hormonal changes, pregnancy, health problems, ageing… women need undergoing aesthetic operations such as breast augmentation, reduction, lifting or others. In this article we are going to review things to consider before breast surgery.

A. Things to Consider in Breast Augmentation

If your breasts that make you feel the sense of femininity the most do not satisfy you and psychologically disturb you, you need a breast augmentation operation. Breast implants and fat injection are two different methods of breast augmentation and plumping. As a result of the operation, naturalness should be your priority. The size of the breast implants to be used for this should be chosen in accordance with your body size.

  • Fat injection or breast implants procedure should be selected by the co-decision of the patient and the doctor.
  • For breast implants produced with advanced technologies you never face the problems occurred in the past such as a need of changing the implants after a certain amount of time, or bursting of the implants. Because these breast prostheses, made of artificial materials are not in a gel structure and never cause any problems.
  • Prostheses, also known as a breast implant, can be placed from under your breasts, nipple or from armpit into your breast area.
  • A great importance should be given to the structure of the prostheses placed in the breasts, as an artificial appearance should not occur after the operation.
  • Depending on the patient’s condition, she can go home on the same day after breast augmentation.
  • There should be no change in the breast tissue and a real breast feeling should be preserved.
  • You should be assured that breast implants do not damage the milk ducts and there will be no problem in breastfeeding after surgery.
  • Nipple numbness should not occur.
  • An experienced doctor will always guide you in the best way. He should be able to provide prospective solutions such as choosing the ideal size of the breast implant, the preference of the surgical technique and the preservation of the mammary glands if the patient is planning to give a birth after the surgery. After the requests and expectations are clearly determined between the patient and the doctor, a successful breast augmentation will take place.

B. Things to Consider in Breast Reduction

If your health problems due to breast size are increasing and you feel unhappy with this you need the breast reduction surgery. Your priority should be researching for a good doctor. You should consult an experienced physician who can control the complications that may occur during the breast reduction operation. You can write down the questions you have in mind related to the breast reduction surgery and the possible problems we shared with you below, consult your doctor, and decide on the operation when you are satisfied with the answers.

  • If you are planning to become pregnant after surgery, you should tell your doctor about it. You should warn your physician about this because the mammary glands get harmed during breast reduction surgery.
  • You should get information about whether side effects such as numbness, burning and stinging may occur in the breasts after the operation.
  • If there is sagging downwards on the nipples due to the size of the breast, you should ask whether the lifting (mastopexy) procedure will be performed.

C. Things to Consider in Breast Lifting

  • Breast lift operation is performed in accordance with the rib cage by analyzing the golden ratio of the body and breast structure. Saggy breasts are caused by the breastfeeding, weight gain and loss situation, and can be addressed by the breast lifting (mastopexy) surgery.
  • Fat injection or breast implant is used for breast lift.
  • Lifting should be performed in accordance with your body structure.
  • Your breast volume structure should be measured and the need for prosthesis or fat injection should be decided in addition to mastopexy procedure.

Breast Implant Selection for Breast Augmentation

Breast Implant Selection for Breast Augmentation

The questions about breast implant selection for breast augmentation are among the common concerns of many women in breast surgery. Among the main questions there are questions such as “What is the best breast silicone implant?”, “What are the most preferred types of breast implants?”, “How should silicone selection in breast augmentation be?”  You can find the answers to all your questions about silicone selection in breast augmentation surgery in our article.

In the process of selection an implant (prosthesis) in breast augmentation, suitable silicone prosthesis options are presented for you depending on various body measurements performed by your surgeon. The most appropriate implant selection is made according to your taste and wishes. Analogue simulations can be performed to make a better choice. In general, this method gives a rough preview. 3D simulations should be used for clearer results. After the screening of your body with various 3D devices, the results about how the silicone that you intend to choose will look with and without clothes are demonstrated to the person. Thus, the way to get the closest result to the person’s request is obtained.

1. Breast Implant Size

First of all, we can say that we aim to prevent wrong information in the digital environment related to the subject. Many people can think about what is the most suitable volume for them based on the information they learn from different sources. This thought is wrong. Indeed, the height, body proportions and shape of the rib cage of each woman are different. Therefore, a customized size should be chosen. The silicone implant preferred by an acquaintance of the same height may not seem so ideal on you, because of your body structure. For this reason, it will be helpful to benefit from the 3D devices we mentioned in the previous topic in coordination with your surgeon.

How to Choose the Right Size of Breast Implant?

Breast augmentation surgery is a surgical procedure that is applied to people who have small, empty breasts after breastfeeding and pregnancy, or whose breasts have to be removed due to any disease. The aim is to create the desired breast structure with silicone breast implant and achieve fuller and perkier breast structures. So, how to choose the right size of breast implant? In this article we will be answering this question.

The most difficult part for women who want to have a breast implant after deciding is the dimensions of the prosthesis. First of all, research should be started to find the best physician. After finding the right physician, detailed examination is very important. After your examination, your physician will listen to you and offer implant sizes suitable for your body structure. He/she will ask you to try the tester prostheses and the decision-making phase will begin.

What To Consider When Choosing Breast Implant

  • Body structure of the person who wants to have breast augmentation surgery
  • The quality of your skin
  • Size and diameter of the rib cage
  • Sagginess in the existing breast structure

All these items are the criteria to help determine the size and dimensions of the prosthesis to be selected. These criteria will be determined by your physician who will perform your breast augmentation surgery. However, you are the criterion that has the biggest impact which is not mentioned above. You must know very well what you want, what you expect, what kind of breast structure you want. And you should express yourself very well to your doctor. Although your doctor will give you suggestions about implant sizes, it is you, who will determine the implant dimensions.

What To Consider When Deciding The Breast Implant Dimensions? What Should You Pay Attention To?

It will not be enough to see and touch implant dimensions from the outside. It is necessary to live with it for several days to see how it fits under the clothes, to see if it bothers you while sleeping at night. For example, if you like to sleep on your face while sleeping at night, very large prostheses will not be suitable for you. It is not possible to take test prostheses and spend a few days with them. However, you can experiment at home by applying the rice test. In this way, you will understand what you want much better and you will make the right decision with your doctor.

How To Do The Rice Test?

Fill 200 g of rice in a clean sock at home. Tie the sock and place this rice ball inside your bra. You can think of it as 200 gr rice = 200 cc breast prosthesis. If it is less, continue increasing the weight of the rice by 20 g, 30 g or 50 g. It will give the closest result for you to have the image you want by increasing the weight little by little. Note how many grams of rice you like when you put inside your bra and share it with your doctor. Your doctor will then decide on details such as the base diameter, height, and profile of the prosthesis. After everything is completed, surgery planning can be performed.

Bra Selection After Breast Augmentation

Bra selection is important for the person who had breast augmentation surgery. Even those who do not have a breast augmentation surgery can choose the wrong bra; while those who have had breast prosthesis surgery can make even more wrong choices. The ideal bra is determined by the person’s size and cup measurements. The size part is the measure of your chest structure that covers your back. Cup is the measure of the area covered by the breast area. After determining the ideal size and cup size, bras with a cup size of 1 size larger should be preferred in people with prosthetic surgery. The reason is that the width of the breast with prosthetic surgery is slightly larger than other breasts.

We would like to remind you that we are with you in your research of the Best Breast Aesthetic surgeon. Thanks to his extended experience, knowledge and skills Assoc.Prof.Dr.Suleyman TAS will help you determine the right breast implant size which will have a natural appearance, make you happy and boost your self-confidence. 2. Breast Silicone Implant Types

There are two different types of silicone prostheses, with different variants in themselves:

A. Teardrop (Anatomic) Silicone Implant

 The main advantages of Teardrop silicone implants are;

  • Teardrop silicone implants are recommended in women with skinny body types in order not to spoil the natural appearance of the body.
  • It is not a general rule, but as the name suggests, teardrop silicone implants are preferred to achieve the shape of the drop in the breast.
  • In women with droopy nipples, the teardrop silicone implant gives more effective results by lifting the nipples.

B. Round Silicone Implant

The Main Advantages Of Round Silicone Implants Are;

  • Suitable for women whose upper breast is empty and therefore have to use a bra with sponge,
  • Solves problems caused by sagging issues more effectively,
  • If teardrop silicone is used in women who regularly perform sports such as basketball, swimming, volleyball, silicone slip may occur over time. However, the risk of muscle movements turning the round implant is low, and even if it turns, it is not noticeable due to its shape.

Both types of silicone implants have their own advantages and disadvantages. You can determine the most suitable one for your body structure and taste with your surgeon.

As can be seen, the choice of silicone can vary both according to anatomy and personal tastes. Therefore, the technology and guidance provided by your surgeon will definitely help you in the selection of silicone. Your surgeon will offer you the most suitable options, and you will be able to choose the type of silicone you think suits you the best, and how much cc silicones you will need, according to your subjective taste.

Are Breast Implants Safe?

“Are breast implants (prosthesis) safe?”  is one of the questions wondered by many patient considering to have breast augmentation surgery. We wanted to enlighten this issue now.

The safety of implants (prosthesis) designed for breast augmentation is extremely important. Your physician can help determine the type and size of prosthesis suitable for you; however prosthesis isn’t produced by the physician. The company that produces the prosthesis is very important here. In other words, companies and products under the counter should not be preferred.

  • The reliability of the company,
  • FDA approval accepted worldwide
  • Have been working for years
  • Experience,
  • Designing products by responding positively to expectations and requests,
  • It performs production in accordance with sterile conditions,
  • Being open to innovations
  • Having a wide product range

The features we listed above are the features that a good prosthesis company should have. Implants produced by the company with these features are safe. Your physician is obliged to choose the implants suitable for your body structure and wishes and the safest brand for you.

Does Breast Implant Make Cancer?

Breast implant used from a reliable brand does not carry cancer risk. There are many statements that breast prostheses cause breast cancer. However, these are claims that have not yet been proven. Breast implant products produced with the state of the art technologies don’t cause harm to the human’s health.  It is not necessary to change it again after a certain period of time. However, breast prostheses used 20-30 years ago could not be produced at the current safety level due to the technology of that period. And it had to be replaced after a certain time. Using these old type prostheses and not changing them in time can threaten human health and cause feared diseases. Currently used prostheses are designed to stay in the body throughout the life. Therefore, it does not need to be replaced after 10 years or 20 years.

Does Allergy Occur Against Breast Implants?

Silicone material used in breast implants is found in many materials we use in daily life. Deodorants, soaps, hand creams, sunscreens, processed foods, chewing gum and many more products contain silicone. Silicon is the substance that causes the least allergic reaction in the body. This is one of the main reasons why it is used and preferred in the production of the breast implants. Of course, allergy to silicone is seen rarely. If you have an allergic body and have active allergies at the moment, you should definitely share this with your doctor. If your allergy is at a level that can be kept under control, there will be no fear. However, if your allergy is at a high level, your doctor will not approve your surgery for your health. The high level of allergy can react not only to the breast prosthesis, but also to the anesthetic drugs that will be used in surgery or to the drugs that will be used afterwards, and this may risk your health.

How Long Do Breast Implants Last?

The breast implants used today is designed to last lifetime. In fact, the reason that these breast prostheses last lifetime is that the lifetime of the implants is much longer than human lifetime. Therefore, it does not need to be changed after 10 years, 15 years, 20 years or 30 years. However, since the breast prostheses used many years ago do not last a lifetime, they should be changed after the expiration with your doctor’s recommendation. Otherwise, it may threaten your health.

Even if your breast implants last life-long, you may need to have breast surgery in some cases. This situation is not due to the prosthesis. With the influence of time, aging begins and the skin loses its elasticity. Sagging may occur due to the gravity. When this situation becomes unbearable, it can be addressed by the surgical intervention.
