Celebrity Nose Job: Before and After

One of the criteria for the Best Rhinoplasty Surgeon was that the plastic surgeon was chosen by celebrities. Because celebrities are very visible and earn their lives in front of the cameras, they are more obsessive about plastic and aesthetic surgeries. So if a celebrity prefers to have a nose job, it may be an important indicator for you. However, celebrities also hide that they have nose job. If the celebrity is not hiding of having a nose job, the celebrity may have collaborated with the plastic surgeon most of the time. Because celebrities do not want to be called aesthetically like every patient and want to know that their beauty is natural. So, Angelina Jolie from Hollywood, and Türkan Şoray from Yeşil Çam all had their nose job operations behind the closed doors.

Skin Thickness for Rhinoplasty

This week we will give you all the information and details about skin thickness for rhinoplasty. During rhinoplasty, the type of skin plays a huge and an important role and can affect the shape of your nose. Skin is the largest part of our body and each person’s skin thickness and structure is different and unique to the person.

The skin thickness on the nose is mainly divided into two parts;

  • Thick skinned noses
  • Thin skinned noses

Thick skinned nose
Patients with thick skin are more likely to own a thick and oily nose. Usually, this type of skin is genetic. The skin on the nose is more noticeable. The healing process after rhinoplasty takes more time. The thick skin seems like a thick blanket, this thick skin covers the shape of the nose. The patients with thick skin also have a rhinoplasty, but the process needs more control and may need to apply extra treatments before rhinoplasty and after rhinoplasty. The aim is to make the skin thinner. With extra treatments, a much more positive and satisfying result can be achieved after rhinoplasty by the right surgeon.

Thin skinned noses

Thin skinned nose, as its name implies, is a very thin structure covering the nose. Patients, who are thinking to have a rhinoplasty, should be well analyzed about skin thickness. Patients with a thin skinned nose have more advantages compared to patients with thick skin. Because they tend to recover faster than those with thick skins. Having a thin skinned nose is one of the desired condition to have a rhinoplasty. Nasal lines and shape will be more visible on the thin skinned noses with the help of all the fine workmanship. The disadvantage of being thin skinned is that it may show even minimal differences. The thin skin seems like a thin sheet on the bed.

Skin thickness is not a barrier for the patients who want to have a rhinoplasty. An experienced rhinoplasty surgeon can analyze and get a good sense of your skin type, thickness, and quality during the examination. And the surgeon can give you a very good idea about the healing process and an achievable result. Therefore, the process will be more positive since the patient and the surgeon knows the big picture.

Questions About Nose Jobs

Patients considering rhinoplasty might have many questions marks in their mind during their research. In this article we have gathered the most frequently asked questions about nose jobs and provided answers to them. In this article answer of questions about nose jobs are prepared by Assoc. Salty water spray is used to clean inside the nose in the early period after nose surgery. The nose should be washed 5 times a day with the salty spray. This way, mucus does not accumulate in the nose, and old crusts and clots are cleaned. Oily pomade should be applied inside the nose before going to bed. It is not recommended blowing your nose in the early period after nose surgery as it increases pressure inside the nose. Only after the 7th day, by closing one nostril with a finger, the other nostril can be blown. After the first week, patients can clean their nose by drawing normal tap water. However, they should not pick their noses with fingers. On the 7th day and the 2nd month after the nose surgery, nose cleaning should be done gently with cotton buds. The patient may begin to clean his nose normally after the second month of the nose surgery.

11. Can I smoke after nose job?

In sports that require close contact such as football and basketball and can be hit by the opponent, patients are recommended to do with a mask or do it after they are well recovered. Activities such as swimming and gym can be started after the 8th week. However, this also changes depending on the patient and the details of the surgery.

13. Does swelling and bruising occur after nose job?
It is common for swelling and bruising to occur after nose surgery. However with the current medical progress, utilized Closed and Atraumatic Approach and drug treatments swelling and bruising is minimized. Nevertheless, if the patients have an unknown bleeding disorder, if they have long periods of menstruation, and if their body is very sensitive and the slightest blow can swell and bruise they may get bruised. Another issue is bruising in cases such as taking blood thinning medications 10 days before the nose surgery, consuming alcohol 5 days before the surgery, and drinking water with lemon 2 days before rhinoplasty.

Swelling and bruising after rhinoplasty heal over time, even if nothing is done. Massaging the nose after nose surgery will eliminate swelling faster and accelerate the healing process. If bruising has occurred after nose surgery, homeopathic medicine can be prescribed so that it can be resolved faster. If the bruise has occurred inside eyes, it can be resolved by the eye drops.

14. Do I need to do nose massage after nose job?
Massage is very useful to resolve the swelling earlier after nose surgery. This massage should be advised by the doctor who performed your surgery. It is important to know the interventions performed during the operation while describing the massage. The content of the massage to be performed after the rhinoplasty surgery varies depending on the interventions performed on bone tissue, cartilage tissue, tissue with grafts, incisional tissue, or soft tissue. Therefore, massaging techniques should be determined by the doctor who performed the surgery. The nasal massage, which will be shown separately to the base of the nose, the bridge of the nose and the tip of the nose, can be done for up to 20 minutes a day. This massage can be performed everyday up to 2 months. Since the nose will be the most swollen when we wake up in the morning, morning nasal massage will be beneficial. The nose is the least swollen in the evenings. Thus, massaging your nose in the evenings can make it easier for you to recognize the nose’s true size. With a control examination to be performed 2 months after the nose surgery, it may be desired to continue the nasal massage or it may be limited only to the areas with swelling.

15. What is the physical condition like after nose job?
After the nose surgery daily activities will be restricted. Restriction of daily activities is also necessary for the rapid improvement of wound healing! The restriction will decrease after the 7th day and the patient will gradually reach previous activity performance.

16. Will there be bleeding after nose job?
Bleeding may occur first 24 hours after rhinoplasty surgery. The important thing here is to distinguish whether the bleeding is an active bleeding or old blood flowing out. If it is an active bleeding necessary precautions should be taken. The old blood outflow can be followed only by dressing. Bleeding occurring after 24 hours of nose surgery should be evaluated more carefully. In case of bleeding after nose surgery, the patient is asked to contact his doctor. Nose surgery is an operation that involves taking anesthesia (narcosis). After such an intervention, it is useful to stay under observation in the hospital for the first 24 hours. In situations that may occur after this type of surgery, the fact that the patient is already under observation provides rapid intervention.

17. Will there be pain after nose job?
There is almost no pain after plastic surgery. However, it is very dependent on the person’s pain threshold. If you are someone with low pain threshold, it will be painful after surgery. Patients with normal and high pain threshold describe post-surgery process as being very comfortable.

18. Will there be nasal congestion after nose job?
Post-operative nasal congestion may occur. This is due to the internal swelling of the nose, just like the swelling of the outside of the nose. Nasal congestion will also disappear with the reduction of nasal swelling. The reason for the obstruction that continues despite the reduction of the swelling of the nose is to be determined by endoscopic examination. Pill and spray treatment may be required to control this condition, which is more common in accompanying allergic issues.

19. What is the patient’s psychological (mental) state like after nose job?
Patient’s psychological state after the nose surgery is directly proportional to the preparation made before the operation. If the patient has mentally prepared himself sufficiently before the surgery and realized what to expect and didn’t proceed with the surgery emotionally, in that case he continues with a comfortable psychology after the operation. Pre-operative tension causes psychological difficulties after the operation. Some patients do not actually want to change subconsciously or are afraid to change. This group of patients may not accept the change of shape after surgery. It will be best for both the doctor and the patient to reveal these patients before the operation and not to let them go through operation until they become ready.

20. What is the best scenario after nose job?
Nose surgery performed to address the problems related to the physical appearance of the patient can increase the patient’s self-esteem. Thus, he will become more effective in his social life and more successful in his business life. If the surgery is well planned for a healthy person, performed in good hands, and no postoperative complications are observed, there is no obstacle to avoid this expected beautiful scenario.

21. What is the worst scenario after nose job?
Anything that can cause unhappiness after nose surgery is a bad scenario. The rhinoplasty surgery is an operation that includes general anesthesia and all stages must be carried out meticulously. There may be a prejudice among our people like “Nose surgery is a simple operation.”, but every operation is a surgical procedure which is a difficult process that must be carried out with maximum care. Detailed preoperative analysis is almost the only thing that can be done to minimize postoperative unhappiness. It is possible to see newspaper headlines and news like “He was in a coma after nose surgery.” This is actually something that reveals the importance of a nose surgery. However, it should not be forgotten that it is not nose surgery, but for some other reason, a health issue that did not show up until that time may break out during your surgery and make it seem like it is connected to the operation. Some rare cases may not be detected in preoperative tests. Things that happen 1 in a million or 1 in 100,000 can happen to us. It would not be honest to deny such situations. The work we do is a risky business, and only if the patients are informed about it and have accepted the risks, should be proceeding with the surgery.

We have come to the end of our blog post where we answered to the frequently asked questions about nose jobs like How to clean the nose after a nose surgery?, Will there be bleeding after nose surgery?, What is the patient’s psychological (mental) state like after nose surgery?” and so on. Ultrasonic Rhinoplasty / Piezo Surgery / Micromotor Technology

In this article, I will handle ultrasonic rhinoplasty, piezo surgery and micromotor terms which are recently popular in rhinoplasty procedures. A technique known as ultrasonic and piezo surgery are surgical instruments that cut or rasp nose bone with vibrations of sound waves only during the nose surgery instead of micromotor or osteotome.

Ultrasonic surgery, which is about 30 years old technology, was originally designed by dentists for use in dental reconstructive surgery. Since bleeding complications occur usually in dental surgery, this device cuts the bone slowly but it causes less bleeding by using the sound waves. So, this technique has been adopted by dentists and has become popular in a short time.

Later in 1992, ultrasonic technology has begun to be used in rhinoplasty by an Italian plastic surgeon and this idea quickly spread to many countries, helping all surgeons to experiment this technology. Where do the ultrasonic or piezo names come from? This instrument, based on the principle of sound waves, creates a vibration, which is then transmitted to a single point through an L-shaped tip and makes cut off the point. Based on this principle, it is called ultrasonic. But it is completely different from the ultrasound which is commonly known. Ultrasound is a diagnostic imaging technique and Ultrasonic is a surgical instrument. Piezo is a word that created and patented by a business firm which is the producer of this instrument. So, generally those who use the instrument of this company use the piezo name, while those using the devices of other companies use ultrasonic rhinoplasty name.

The advantages of this technique are the possibility of cutting the bone in a smoother manner than the typical rasping and osteotome and may cause less bleeding while cutting the bone. Less bleeding will ensure less swelling and less bruising.

Micromotor technology is also a new technology and has been used in rhinoplasty for about 10 years. The motor technology, used to shape the bone almost 70 years in many areas such as facial/ body aesthetics and neurosurgery, was designed in microstructure to ensure surgery in small areas such as the nose. With micromotor technology, the nasal bone can be reshaped smoothly with a system based on electrical energy. With this to the point intervention, the possibility of edema and bleeding can be reduced and a much faster healing period can be created. We wish that all these technological improvements will be better and more every day.
