In this article, we will share with you how the process after rhinoplasty surgery progresses and what you need to pay attention to during this process. Recovery after rhinoplasty is a process that requires care. We can start by explaining how you should go through this process.

Recovery Process After Rhinoplasty Surgery

Recovery after rhinoplasty is a process covering a period of up to 1 year after the surgery. We can divide this process into 3 periods after surgery: early, mid, and late. The early period covers the first week after surgery. The mid period starts from the 7th day and lasts until the 2nd month. The late period covers the time from the 2nd month up to 1 year. In the early period, the doctor is visited frequently for check-ups. From the 2nd month onward, most of the recovery is completed. However, this can vary from person to person.

What should you pay attention to after rhinoplasty surgery?

In this section of our article, we will explain step by step the processes you need to pay attention to after surgery.

Ameliyattan Hemen Sonra Dikkat Edilmesi Gerekenler

  • The first thing you need to pay attention to after surgery is your sleeping position. After surgery, you should lie down with your head elevated and your knees bent. You should not try to lie the bed flat. This position is important so that your swelling does not increase.

  • Ice should be applied until you are discharged.

  • You should drink water 6 hours after the surgery. If you don't feel nauseous, you can eat. Soft foods such as soup and stewed fruit should be preferred.

  • When there is a problem such as turbinate tissue, this tissue is removed together with the rhinoplasty, and this can cause bleeding. This is a normal situation. Gauze should be placed at the tip of the nose to absorb the blood.

  • At home too, you should place a pillow/blanket behind you and sleep in a sitting position like this for 1 week, until your splint is removed.

  • You can shower, and you can wash your hair by tilting it back the way it's done at a hairdresser's. Water should not come into contact with the face area.

  • Consuming green tea and parsley will help your swelling go down faster.

  • You should use your medications regularly.

  • The nose's internal moisturizing function returns 1 month after the surgery. That's why you should use medication for 2 months after your splint and tampon are removed. The first of these is "Nasal Spray" (6 times a day) and the other is "Ointment" (right before going to bed at night). I say nasal spray 6 times a day, but this is at least 6 times.

  • You should touch your nose gently. You can wear makeup. You can clean it nicely in the shower. Your touches should be in an upward direction.

  • Blowing your nose, straining, coughing, bending down and standing up, and lifting or carrying a heavy load can increase your risk of bleeding. You should not do these movements unless you are told to.

  • You should not wear glasses for 2 months. There is no harm in sunbathing, going into the sea or swimming. Just do not jump into the water.

  • You should stay away from sports such as yoga, pilates and fitness for 8-10 weeks.

  • You should brush your teeth gently with a soft toothbrush.

  • Your check-ups are at the 2nd month and the 12th month. You should not miss these check-ups.

  • You should not let your nose take any impact.

How to Eat After Rhinoplasty Surgery?

  • Regarding nutrition after rhinoplasty, you should consume soft foods.

  • While eating after rhinoplasty, you should stay away from extremely hot or cold foods.

  • While eating after rhinoplasty, you should not chew excessively for a certain period. In addition, you should not chew gum.

  • You should stay away from excessively salty foods.

  • For a certain period after rhinoplasty, you should stay away from foods that cause gas and bloating, and you should not consume soda.

  • Since they have a positive effect on wound healing, you should include foods containing protein and vitamin C in your eating habits after rhinoplasty.

  • You should stay away from foods you are personally allergic to.

  • While eating after rhinoplasty, you should not eat spicy foods for a certain period.

Can you smoke after rhinoplasty? Smoking must absolutely be stopped before rhinoplasty surgery. Smoking has a very negative effect on healing after rhinoplasty and causes recovery to be disrupted. For this reason, you should not smoke before or after rhinoplasty, and you should also stay away from areas where people are smoking so that you are not exposed to secondhand smoke.

Can you exercise after rhinoplasty surgery? Sports are not allowed for 6 weeks after the surgery. After the 6th week, light exercise such as walking can be done. For sports that require close contact and the risk of being hit by an opponent, such as football or basketball, it is recommended that patients either wear a mask or wait until they have fully healed. Activities such as swimming and the gym can be started after the 8th week. However, this also varies from patient to patient depending on the details of the surgery performed.

👃 What Is the Worst-Case Scenario After Rhinoplasty Surgery?

Everything that could cause unhappiness after a rhinoplasty is the worst-case scenario. The rhinoplasty surgery to be performed is an operation that involves anesthesia, and all of its stages must be carried out meticulously. There may be a common misconception among the public that “rhinoplasty is a simple operation,” but every operation is a surgical procedure, and every surgical procedure is a difficult process that must be carried out with maximum care. A detailed analysis before the surgery is almost the only thing that can be done to minimize unhappiness after the surgery. It is possible to see newspaper headlines and news stories along the lines of “patient fell into a coma after rhinoplasty.” This actually demonstrates just how serious rhinoplasty surgery is. However, it should also be kept in mind that a condition unrelated to the rhinoplasty itself, one that had never surfaced until then, could emerge during the surgery you undergo and make it appear as though it were caused by the operation. Some rare conditions may not be detected in test results. Things that occur in 1 in a million or 1 in 100,000 cases can happen to any of us. It would not be honest to deny that such situations are possible. What we do is a risky undertaking, and it can only be carried out once patients have been informed about this and have accepted the risks. 👃 When Should You Massage After Rhinoplasty Surgery?

Massage is one of the types of care used after rhinoplasty surgery. Nose massage, which must absolutely be performed exactly as instructed by the doctor, has the main purpose of positively affecting the healing process of edema and swelling. For an average of 2 months after the surgery, massage should be performed for about 20 minutes a day using the correct techniques.

👃 What Is the Best-Case Scenario After Rhinoplasty Surgery?

With rhinoplasty surgery, problems affecting a person's external appearance can be corrected, which can boost the patient's self-confidence and help them be more effective socially and more successful professionally. In a healthy person, when the surgery is well planned and performed by skilled hands, and no post-operative complications occur, there is nothing to prevent this expected positive outcome from being achieved.

👃 How Many Days of Sick Leave Are Given After Rhinoplasty Surgery?

How many days of sick leave are given after rhinoplasty surgery varies depending on the type and scope of the surgical procedure performed. On average, 10 days of sick leave is given. If the doctor deems it necessary, the sick leave period can be extended.

👃 How Many Days Does Nasal Packing Stay In After Rhinoplasty Surgery?

“When is the nasal packing removed after rhinoplasty surgery?” is one of the most frequently asked questions about the post-operative process. The silicone packing with a hole in the middle that is placed inside the nose during rhinoplasty surgery is removed 1 week after the surgery. Thanks to advances in technology, this silicone packing, specially designed for rhinoplasty surgery and the shape of the nose, provides a more comfortable recovery process compared to the nasal packing used in rhinoplasty surgeries in the past.

👃 Does Removing the Nasal Packing Hurt?

Recovery time after rhinoplasty can vary depending on the scope of the surgery performed and the technique applied. The splint and packing are removed after 1 week. Details such as sleeping position are followed carefully for as long as the doctor recommends. Generally, after the first 7 to 10 days, a person heals enough to return to their normal social life. However, even though the patient returns to their social life after this period, they must continue to protect their nose in line with the doctor's recommendations.

👃 How Many Days Does It Take to Heal After Rhinoplasty Surgery?

Removing the splint and packing is absolutely not a painful process. The splint placed on the nose during surgery stays in place thanks to strong adhesives. The patient does not feel pain when the splint is removed. For more information:

👃 When Does Nasal Tip Elevation Go Down After Rhinoplasty Surgery?

You will not see your nose's final shape right after surgery. The nasal tip elevation changes month by month as it begins to settle. However, it can take up to 1 year for the nasal tip elevation to fully settle. After 1 year, the nasal tip elevation will have completely gone down and the shape of the nose will have settled into place.

👃 When Does the Final Shape Become Clear After Rhinoplasty Surgery?

After a rhinoplasty performed with a closed and atraumatic technique, the swelling and edema that occur in the nose affect its final appearance. This swelling and edema generally heal within 2 months. However, the nose reaches its true final appearance after 1 year following the surgery. Therefore, we can also answer the question “When does nasal tip elevation go down after rhinoplasty?” as being, on average, 1 year.

How Much Does Rhinoplasty Change the Face?:

As you know, the nose is located right in the middle of the face. Therefore, even the smallest change in the nose changes the appearance of the face. However, this change happens in a positive direction depending on your surgeon's skill. So there is nothing about this that you need to be afraid of.

Read our article for more information about this.

👃 When Does Breathing Improve After Rhinoplasty Surgery?

Breathing after rhinoplasty can be more difficult than usual. This improving over time is the healthy outcome. However, if this condition does not go away, revision rhinoplasty may be necessary, because the procedure may have resulted in nasal valve stenosis. For this reason, you should stay in contact with your surgeon and have the process monitored.

👃 Does Nasal Congestion Occur After Rhinoplasty Surgery?

Nasal congestion can occur after surgery. This happens because, just as the outside of the nose swells, the inside of the nose swells as well. As the swelling in the nose goes down, the nasal congestion will also disappear. In cases where the congestion continues despite the swelling going down, the cause needs to be determined through an endoscopic examination. This condition, which is seen more frequently alongside accompanying allergies, may require pill and spray treatment to bring it under control.

👃 Is There Pain After Rhinoplasty Surgery?

There is now almost no pain after aesthetic surgery. However, this depends heavily on a person's pain threshold. If you are someone with a low pain threshold, the post-operative period will be painful for you. Patients whose pain threshold is normal or higher, on the other hand, describe the post-operative period as very comfortable.

👃 When Does Pain Go Away After Rhinoplasty Surgery?

Rhinoplasty performed with a closed and atraumatic technique does not cause a painful process. However, this can also vary depending on a person's pain threshold. Intense pain is rarely encountered, especially if the patient does not have an infection or other condition that would negatively affect pain levels. On the other hand, after the effects of the anesthesia wear off following the surgery, your doctor will recommend the necessary pain-relief medication for you. So there is nothing to be afraid of when it comes to pain.

👃 Does Bleeding Occur After Rhinoplasty Surgery?

Bleeding can be seen in the first 24 hours after rhinoplasty surgery. What matters here is distinguishing whether the bleeding is active bleeding or simply old blood draining out. If it is active bleeding, precautions need to be taken. If it is old blood draining out, it can simply be monitored with dressing changes. Bleeding that occurs after the first 24 hours following rhinoplasty surgery should be evaluated more carefully. In the case of bleeding after rhinoplasty surgery, the patient is asked to contact their doctor. Rhinoplasty is a surgery that involves receiving anesthesia. After such a procedure, it is beneficial to remain under observation in the hospital for the first 24 hours. Being already under observation in situations like these that can occur after surgery allows for a quick response.

👃 Does Loss of Smell Occur After Rhinoplasty Surgery?

Yes, loss of smell can occur after rhinoplasty surgery. However, this is something you may experience only in the short term. Silicone packing is placed inside the nose during rhinoplasty surgery. This packing has a hole in the middle, so you can continue to breathe after the surgery. However, the holes in this packing can become blocked by fluids that build up inside the nose, which is when the loss of smell begins. It is a temporary condition. Once the packing is removed, the sense of smell returns. Very rarely, loss of smell can be permanent. In this case, your choice of doctor is extremely important.

👃 Does Scarring Occur After Rhinoplasty Surgery?

Whether or not scarring occurs after rhinoplasty surgery depends on the technique used in the surgery. In rhinoplasty surgeries performed with the open technique, an incision is made at the tip of the nose. For this reason, scarring on the nose after surgery is likely. However, in surgeries performed with the closed technique, there is no such thing as scarring on the nose. In fact, in surgeries performed with the closed technique, which we also use as TAS Aesthetic Surgery Center, there is no incision at the tip of the nose. The surgery is performed through the nostrils, which prevents any scarring that could occur after surgery. For more information:

👃 What Is the Psychological State Like After Rhinoplasty Surgery?

The psychological state after rhinoplasty surgery is directly related to the preparation done before the surgery. If a patient has sufficiently prepared themselves mentally before the surgery, has been informed about what to expect, and did not go into the surgical process anxiously, they will continue to have a comfortable psychological state after the surgery as well. Tension that builds up before the surgery, on the other hand, can cause the post-operative period to be psychologically difficult. Some patients subconsciously do not actually want to change, or are afraid of changing. This group of patients may not accept the change in shape that occurs after surgery. Identifying these patients before the surgery and not proceeding with the operation until they are ready is in the best interest of both the doctor and the patient.

👃 What Is the Physical State Like After Rhinoplasty Surgery?

After rhinoplasty surgery, you will inevitably feel to some extent that you have had surgery, and your daily activities will be limited. Limiting daily activities is also necessary for wound healing to continue quickly! This limitation will decrease after the 7th day, and the patient will gradually return to their previous activity level.

👃 How Is Cleaning Done After Rhinoplasty Surgery?

In the early period after rhinoplasty surgery, saline spray is used. The nose should be rinsed with this water 5 times a day. This way, mucus does not build up in the nose, and old crusts and clots are cleared away. A moisturizing cream should be applied at night. Blowing your nose is not recommended in the early period after rhinoplasty surgery, as it increases pressure. However, after the 7th day, you can blow your nose through one nostril while closing the other with one finger. After the first week, patients can clean their nose using regular tap water. However, they still should not poke around inside their nose with their fingers. Between the 7th day and the 2nd month after rhinoplasty surgery, cleaning of the nose should be done gently, mainly with a cotton swab. After the 2nd month following the surgery, the patient can begin cleaning their nose normally.

👃 Is Massage Performed After Rhinoplasty Surgery?

Massage is quite beneficial after rhinoplasty surgery in order for swelling to resolve more quickly. This massage needs to be explained to you by the doctor who performed your surgery. Knowing the procedures carried out during the surgery is important when describing the massage. The content of the massage to be performed after rhinoplasty surgery varies depending on whether it is being done on bone tissue, cartilage tissue, grafted tissue, incised tissue, or soft tissue. For this reason, it needs to be determined by the surgeon who performed the operation. Nasal massage, which is shown separately for the base of the nose, the bridge of the nose, and the tip of the nose, can be performed for about 20 minutes a day. This massage can be repeated every day and continued for 2 months. Since the swelling in the nose is at its maximum when we wake up in the morning, performing a morning nasal massage will be beneficial. In the evening before going to bed, the swelling in the nose is at its lowest level. Performing the massage again at this time can also make it easier for the nose to become familiar with its shape closer to the final result. At the check-up examination 2 months after rhinoplasty surgery, you may be asked to continue the nasal massage, or it may be limited to only the areas where swelling remains. You can read our article for more detailed information:

👃 How Do Swelling and Bruising Go Away After Rhinoplasty Surgery?

The swelling and bruising around the face and eyes after rhinoplasty surgery goes away through natural means. No additional intervention is done for this. In order to minimize this process, the patient needs to follow their doctor's advice to the letter. The swelling and bruising that occurs around the eyes goes away within a short period of about 3 to 4 days. However, since the operation is performed inside the nose, patients need to be patient for the edema in the nose to subside. In surgeries performed with the closed and atraumatic technique, the swelling in the nose largely goes away within the 2-month period following the surgery. In total, within 1 year, the swelling that occurs in the nose goes down completely and the nose reaches its final appearance.

👃 Does Renewed Aesthetic or Physical Deformity Occur After Rhinoplasty Surgery?

After rhinoplasty, you must follow the things you need to pay attention to and listen to what your doctor tells you. Problems can be seen in people who are not careful after rhinoplasty. In addition, people who have not had a good rhinoplasty procedure will need a revision.
